The Red Mile Clubhouse

I was approached by an interior designer about some pieces they wanted to hang in a place that they were remodeling. All I knew was that had to do with harness racing and that was about it. I met with the interior designer to go over what size they wanted the piece to be, and how many they wanted & that's when I learned that my art was going to be hanging permanently in the newly remodeled clubhouse at The Red Mile.

Home to harness racing The Red Mile was founded on September 28, 1875. It is the second oldest harness racing track in the world, and the oldest horse racing track in Lexington & hosts one of the legs of the Triple Crown of harness racing for trotters, the Kentucky Futurity. Another maybe not-so-well-known fact is that it was filmed on location for April Love, a film staring Shirley Jones & Pat Boone.

To say I have a history with this place is probably a bit of an understatement. Now, I'm saying this from the perspective of a little girl & all I can remember is going to the racetrack at least once a month maybe more, it's very possible that there was more because I couldn't get enough of horses.

It feels very surreal & yet full circle to have my artwork so beautifully displayed in this historic place that has been given new life. Making this space as special & memorable as the history it holds.
